On a day when we remember the heroes and the victims (not mutually
exclusive) of 9/11/01, are we more prepared?
Does your club have the following:
1. An emergency escape route from your meeting place
2. A listing of emergency contacts on hand at your meeting place
3. A first aid kit
4. Someone who knows CPR
5. Someone assigned to contact every member regarding last minute
changes in meeting events (helpful even in non-emergencies)
Mine doesn't, since this just came to mind today.
Any other ideas to add to this?

You bring up some interesting points, Rich. Some of these things would be
club-specific. For instance, my home club meets at an assisted living
facility, in a room with a door that opens directly outside. In other
words, our emergency escape route is the way most of us come and go, and
there would most likely be first aid materials and people who know CPR
around. Of course the CPR experts might well be busy with residents.
As for being assigned to contact every member, we have a Toasthost group,
and all of our current members have email. Mailings go out to the whole
group on a regular basis.
The one thing we don't have is a list of emergency contacts. OTOH, many of
our members bring their cell phones to the meetings, and we can always dial
911. Of course, if you mean contacts for each individual in case that
person is incapacitated, that is another matter.

In our club, we decided that it would be of the secretary's duty to
contact all members in case a meeting has to be cancelled. The
president makes the decision and then calls the secretary. I don't know
if this is realistic, however, or if most of our mmebers know this is
the plan. Our phone chain works well with predicted emergencies (heavy
snows and such) but not with the unexpected. A few years ago we had a
close call when a tornado suddenly popped up barrelling down Rt. 28
straight for the hall where our area contest was about to begin. There
was mass confusion, but the contest went on anyway (with about half the
people missing). It turned out ok, and now has become a funny story. |

Rich-
Yes on #1,2,3,5.
On a different emergency front, we also have created a backup meeting
kit of ribbons, ballots, timing devices, membership apps, recruitment
materials, etc., in case the sgt/arms or such cannot attend and no
other member can pick up the appropriate stuff from them.

P.S. Glad to see you have recovered from the DBrooks assault to a point
where you can type again. ;-)
