I was on this group when it started years ago and now I am back. I
have been a Toastmaster since January, 1991. I now live in Tucson,
Arizona where I am Past President of Conquistador Toastmasters. The
International Conference is in our District next year in Phoenix, we
are District 3.
I look forward to meeting people as time goes on. I will be traveling
first week in October in New York, Baltimore and Washington.
I am working on a speaking and writing career. My first book is about
to be published and I have two other books coming. The blog for my
first book is

In Conquistador Toastmasters, we are building a Speakers Bureau and I
will speak more about that in another note.

Hi Mike, Welcome to the board. I was interested in your experiences
with building a speakers bureau, and hope you'll let us know if it
becomes successful and what sort of challenges arose along the way. We
used to have one here, but apparently it died. I don't know what
happened, but maybe someday we can get it going again. |

Hi Betsy,
We meet the second Sunday of every month from 1:30-3. For now, we are
just an addition of my club Conquistador Toastmasters
(http://conquistadors.freetoasthost.org). I first had a vague idea as
outgoing President, then my club member and friend Karen King took the
ball and ran with it. We have six people in Conquistador who want to
go professional. As you know, many of the Advanced Speeches are
extremely long and sometimes hard to fit in during a regular meeting.
At first, it was just a forum to do Advanced Speeches. Folks from
other clubs are welcome, but we originally did it for us. We had our
first meeting in May, so we have had four meetings now. We are looking
at guest speakers as well, (I am in touch with a local TV Personality
here).
I asked TI, because I was not sure about founding a Speakers Bureau. I
thought it had to be on District Level. It turns out, a club can form
a Speakers Bureau. The document from TI costs twenty five cents. We
found 170 Toastmasters in Southern AZ who has CTM. You can join a
Speakers Bureau with six speeches, but for accounting purposes it is
easier to start with CTM's.
The District wants us to make this an Advanced Club. That may happen
eventually. We have six people registered and I have a list of
organizations to present speeches I drew up.
Long winded Betsy, but I hope it answers your question.
