Recently there have been some threads about what various clubs use for
timing. Does anybody use this (or similar) software:
http://members.ij.net/martin/timetoaster.html? Next time I volunteer for
timer I might put it on my portable computer and give it a try.

The problems with timer software is that:
*you need to bring a computer to the meeting.
*the screen must face the audience and the timekeeper cannot monitor it
easily at the same time.
* if you use a laptop, the screen color may not be visible due to glare
or the speaker's position in the room as s/he moves around.
I found that good old color cards are the most efficient. Just put the
color cards, a stop watch, a couple of pens, and several copies of
timer's sheets in a big envelope or big ziplog back and you are prepared
for every meeting. You have an easy to carry timekeeper's kit to store
in the room or for the seargent-at-arms to bring to the meetings. You
can even include in the kit other forms you use regularly at meetings,
such as attendance/guest sheets, evaluation/ballot forms.

100% Agreed P.C. - I've found timing software works for an individual
practicing and rehearsing their speech, but is not worth the hassle for
the average meeting. |
