Sometimes there is good news in our Toastmasters family to announce,
and other times...not so much.

It is with sadness that I inform readers of this group that
Toastmasters has lost a good friend and valued former leader. After
waging a valiant multi-year fight against cancer, Past International
President Joanna McWilliams passed away last night.

As best I can tell through the e-mails from her husband Bruce, he is
doing well. Since it was not a sudden thing, he has had the
opportunity to prepare himself somewhat. Still, I imagine he would
appreciate being kept in our prayers.

No matter how much you expect it, there is something missing
in preparations when the event happens.

It is sad news.

Jim,

I heard yesterday from someone else, and was deeply saddened at the news.
Joanna was a judge at our District International Speech contest in 2001,
the year I won and ended up meeting you on the big stage. She was a
wonderful leader, and a great Toastmaster, and of course being a Texas
girl we got along famously!

It is indeed a loss to the Toastmasters world, and certainly to all her
friends and family. We will keep her in our prayers.
