Sorry you didn't get the chance to attend. I hope your wife is doing
better now.

Next year, the Region VII Conference is going to be in Philadelphia, so
I look forward to seeing some of the others from this part of the
country there.

Another person I met at the just-concluded conference that I didn't
realize was a somewhat regular participant here is the District 36
Governor Mike Heney. It must really be an honor to be the District
Governor of the host District.

I was unable to attend...my wife had surgery on the monday preceding
the conference, so I was on Florence Nightengale duty last week.

I count it as my loss that I missed the chance to meet you!

Rich -

When can we download an audio of your WCPS speech? (I'd love to hear even a
practice version, if not the real contest presentation.)

Thank you everyone! The week was incredible, and my 7 minutes and 10
seconds or so in the spotlight was tremendous!

I have no regrets about my speech or my placing by the judges. The
crowd made me feel as if I were the World Champion at every laugh, and
even the spontaneous applause 2/3 through.

Thank you all for your support!

I'm sure it is. However, I suspect it is also a huge responsibility and a
*lot* of work!

So Rich, when will your blog have a complete wrap-up of your thoughts
and experiences on the whole experience? I checked last night and it
didn't have anything new yet, so I presume you're still getting caught
up with life after the several day trip.

I'm working on getting Audio from Bill Stephens. For all my practices,
I still did new things once I was up there based on crowd response, and
a few friday changes for the better, so I have nothing truly
representative of my final speech in my practice log.

When its available, I'll post it! Thank you for your interest in
hearing it!

Rich.

It was indeed an honor to be the Host District Governor - but it was
(for me) not really a lot of work - at least leading up to the Convention.
We had a fantastic Host Committee Chair (Past D36 Governor Jim Ronning),
and his guidance was "you have a District to run - let us worry about
the convention." The Host Committee and WHQ did all the work, let me
know when there was something I needed to know, and otherwise stayed
below my radar. Having a solid team that you can trust makes a huge
difference!!!

It was an incredible amount of fun - I spent most of the convention
walking around and talking to people in the halls. The hardest work
was trying to stick to my diet while being served hotel food!!
