|
|
Hi,
We are a new club - one of our members said that if you do not have 20 members on June 30 then Toastmasters will deem your club "inactive". Can anyone confirm if this is true?
I went to the toastmaster's website and it said that you need only have 6 members with at least 3 having been prior members.
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to render.

That's incorrect, Sonja.
The club needs 20 members minimum to get a charter intially. After that
the club mebership will fluntuatre as members drop out and new folks join.
Many clubs' membership drop below 20 and they function for a long time.
TI has a "suggested minumum of 20 members or a net gain of 5 new members
to be eligible for the Distingushed Club program. TI has determined that
20 is the magic number for a club to be fucntional long term.
The "6 members" criteria during the renewal cycle relates to the process
that TI will follow to revoke a club's charter if it reaches
"inactivity". Basically, TI will not allow club member renewals if the
roster reaches below that level. If it does, the club's status will be
classified as inactive. Then the club has a grace period to get
re-activate or it will lose its charter.
Your area governor should be able to give your more details..

Having been in clubs with less than 20 members(in fact I'm Club President of
one now working to reach 20, Edgewood Toastmasters), I know that TI will not
revoke the Club Charter. It is correct that 20 is the magic number to get
those Distinguished accolades in the DCP or Distinguished Club Program.
Also, if your club is nearing that number "6" or another drastic level,
check with your Area Governor or other District Officials about CLUB RESCUE.
Many Districts do have folks who function in that capacity. They can work
with you and fellow Club members/Officers to get the group back into top
shape. Glad to pass this along as a public service.
